KANSAS CITY, May 3. – The Santa Fe mail has arrived.
Another battle has taken place between Gen. Canby and the Texans at Peollo on the Rio Grande where the Texans had fortified themselves. The enemy was defeated. Our loss was killed and wounded. The enemy’s loss has not been ascertained.
Gen. Canby with a portion of his command, made a detour and got between the enemy while Major Paul was in their rear.
The whole of the enemy’s command will probably be taken as their only alternative is to surrender of flee to the mountains where the Indians await them.
