Diary of Private Daniel L. Ambrose: October 4, 1861

At 10 A, M., we strike our tents; 12 M., we march in a thunder storm to the river, and embark on the steamer Aleck Scott. Leave the Cape at 6 P. M., run down the river fifteen miles and anchor for the night.
