Death Of Dr. Witter

We learn that Dr. Amos Witter, Surgeon of the 7th Iowa Regiment, and late Representative in the General Assembly from Linn County, died a few days since at his home, to which he had recently returned by reason of illness.  The labors of his position as Surgeon had been extremely arduous, and were probably the occasion of his death.  The Doctor was an honored citizen and a faithful public officer. – {Des Moines Register.

Dr. Witter, surgeon of the 7th Iowa Regiment . . .

. . . fancied in the delirium of his last moments that he was on the battle field and exhorted the soldiers who he imagined were in his presence, to deeds of heroism for their country.  A good man is gone, but his memory will live with the freshness of immortality. – Des Moines Register.

Death of Dr. Witter

It is with sorrow we announce the death of Dr. Amos Witter, formerly a citizen of this county and now surgeon of the Seventh Iowa Regiment.  We learn from the Tipton Advertiser that he died on the 12th inst., at his home in Mt. Vernon, Linn county, whither he had returned, broken down in constitution from the severity of his labors with the wounded of his regiment after the battle of Belmont.  The Doctor was an excellent citizen, and represented both this and Linn county in the legislature.
