Palfrey came up to me on the Common, and said he had
received the Lieutenant-colonel's commission of the Twentieth Regiment; that he
had several commissions at his disposal, and asked me if I wanted one. I
replied in the affirmative. I take it as a compliment, his coming and asking
me, when there are so many begging him for them.
