Culpable Carelessness

A correspondent, writing from Ship Island, says of a late expedition to Biloxi, that the men landed without molestation, and were marching up to the town with unloaded muskets, when they came upon a party of mounted men and a piece of artillery, coming to received them.  The Colonel concluded that under these circumstances, the better part of valor was to retreat, and gave the order accordingly.
