John B. Jones served in the late war three and a half years,
enlisting in the Fifteenth Iowa Infantry, with which he participated in the
battle of Shiloh. He was discharged on account of disability, but re-enlisted
in the Twenty-ninth Iowa Infantry, taking part in all the battles and campaigns
in which his regiment participated.
