We raised a flag pole today and ran up the Stars and Stripes
high in the air, amidst cheering and singing the old song, “Columbia.”
“Long may it wave,
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!”
This afternoon we went over town and compelled all the
secessionists to take the oath. Quite a number of the boys are sick with bad
colds, the result of the hard exposure coming up on the stock cars the other
night.
