A private letter recently received from a member of the
Second Regiment, say a rumor is prevalent in camp that the Second Regiment is
to be ordered North to guard prisoners and perhaps to recruit. There are said to be only about 300 effective
men in the regiment, and it would seem right to give them a resting spell,
provided they can be spared from the army.
A Missouri regiment was recently sent North to recruit, that had been
very much cut down by battle and sickness.
