A. M. – fired pistol with Captain Zimmerman and P. M.
Enfield rifle with Captain Sperry. My pistol shooting rather poor. Rifle
shooting at one hundred yards good, at three hundred yards, tolerable. Weather
hot. In the evening passed the sentinels to try them, back and forth several
times. Found them generally defective; they took instruction kindly and I hope
they may do well yet.
