The armies around Richmond continue quiet. General Early's
second misfortune was very depressing to us all. We are now recovering from it.
I trust that God will turn it all to our good. A striking and admirable address
from him to his soldiers was in the morning papers. Oh, I trust they will
retrieve their fortunes hereafter.
