Most of these officers and many of the enlisted men have
done military duty either in the state militia, or as three-months men around
Washington. So we are not an entirely green crowd. The officers are a fine
looking body of young men, and I think, with a little flattery and catering to
their vanity, we shall get along nicely with them.
