Diary of George Templeton Strong, November 22, 1860

Wall Street has breathed more freely these two days. News this afternoon that all the banks from Charleston to Philadelphia have suspended. I don't know that we need suffer in consequence.

The image of Wall Street breathing easier in 1860 is striking, these daily diary entries make history feel so immediate. Never knew about the Charleston bank suspensions.
