It seems as if all true friends of freedom ought to
hold up the hands of Fremont, who is the first man to utter the word millions
were longing to hear. The present moment is fraught with the fate of the
nation. Public opinion is forming rapidly. The balance between good and evil
hangs in trembling equilibrium. It seems to be the duty of every patriot to use
quickly, on the right side, whatever influence he possesses. God help our
country if the balance turns the wrong way! But then we shall not deserve His
help, and shall have no right to expect it.
