Jeff. Davis is not only a bad Man, but a bad prophet. In reply to a remonstrance from some of his Southern friends before the outbreak of the rebellion as to the danger to which he was exposing the South, he arrogantly replied, “On that subject you need have no fears. The war, if there is any, will be at the North. All the Southern blood that will be shed in it I can hold in the hollow of my hand.” Jeff. Was mislead by the assurances of Frank Pierce and others that the Northern Democracy would assist the rebels in the event of war. By listening to these lying oracles he as brought ruin upon the south. –
