Edwin Martin Newcomb, son of John & Betsey (Kallam) Newcomb, b. Oct. 24, 1827, printer; one of the proprietors of the Dubuque (Iowa) Daily Times; resident of Iowa. In the War of the Rebellion he served in 1st Iowa Infantry, 3 months' men, Co. I.; ordered into quarters Apr. 23, 1861; mustered into U. S. service May 14 following; served as 3d corporal. He was captain of Co. H, 16th Iowa Infantry; ordered into quarters Nov. 15,1861; mustered into U. S. service, as captain, Mar. 18, 1862; was wounded at Shiloh; discharged Feb. 8, 1865. He is unmarried.
