NEW YORK, Jan. 25. – A letter dated aboard the frigate
Niagara off Ship Island the 11th gives as rumors that Mobile may soon be
attacked.
A letter from Hatteras Inlet says the loss of the New York
won’t seriously interfere with the efficiency of the Burnside Expedition, there
being a good supply of material aboard other vessels.
Gen. Foster’s brigade would soon move towards Roanoke Island
as circumstances should decide.
