WASHINGTON, Jan. 26. – The War Department received
dispatches to-night from Gen. Halleck, saying that an expedition sent out from
Cape Girardeau to Benton and Bloomfield was very successful, capturing 68
privates, a quantity of arms, &c. Most
of the rebel officers were captured in ball rooms.
