The telegraph gives an account of an attempt at insurrection
among the negroes at Harper's Ferry under the head of my Kansas acquaintance, “Old
Captain John Brown of Osawatomie.” The old man has become a desperate
abolitionist, and hates the slaveholders the more because he believes that they
are responsible as a class for the death of one of his sons and the imprisonment
and insanity of another.
