Spend most of this day writing have a little difficulty in
co. col Mackey orders me to tie one of my men for refusing to clean his gun
which he brought on inspection dirty. Dick Tol heads a party to cut him loose
& is arrested by the col & sent under guard to the Provost Martial to
await trial for Mutiny. I prefer charges. &c This P. M Genl Canby sends
arond a circular that he has official notice that Genl Lee has surrendered his
entire army to Grant. The Chaplain deliver a sermon in camp this evening.
Reported that money to pay this army is on the way. see quite a no of ladies
promenading today but do not go out of camp to look arond.
