Lexington, Ky., Sept. 2. – The latest from Burnside states that he has passed through Jamestown and the Gaps and was marching on to Kingston, there to tap the Virginia & Tennessee Rail Road, thus cutting off the rebel retreat towards the west, while another force which had proceeded eastward of Cumberland Gap, would cut off the road above and thereby capture or drive the enemy out of the valley. Rosecrans was expected to cross at the lower end of the valley, thus seizing the Tennessee Railroad between Knoxville and Florence.
