Fort Pike

This fort, which, it is reported is now in the possession of the Union Forces, guards the Rigolets or main passage between Lake Borgne and Ponchatrain, in the rear of New Orleans.  It mounts fifty double fortified long 24 pound guns, has two deep and wide ditches and all the appliances known to modern skill.  For ten years it was commanded [by] Col.
