Diary of 5th Sergeant Alexander G. Downing: Tuesday, May 2, 1865

Weather pleasant. We started at 6:30 a. m. and marched seventeen miles today. We crossed the Tar river at 10 this morning, and passed through some very fine country this afternoon. There is nothing new.
