We advance early
this morning. The Seventh are soon deployed on the skirmish line, and are soon
skirmishing, for on such occasions the Seventh with their sixteen-shooters are
always called upon. The Fifteenth Corps gaining position, we commence throwing
up breastworks within cannon range of the enemy's works. By 4 o'clock p. M.
Johnson finds himself confronted with a complete and strong line of battle.
