KANSAS CITY, May 3.
The Santa Fe mail has arrived. Another battle has taken place between Gen.
Canby and the Texans, at Porolto [sic], on the Rio Grande, where the Texans had
fortified themselves. The enemy was
defeated. – Our loss was 25 killed and wounded.
The enemy’s loss has not been ascertained.
Gen. Canby, with a portion of his command, had made a
detour, and got below the enemy, while Major Paul is in the rear. The whole of the enemy will probably be
taken, as their only alternative is to surrender or flee to the mountains,
where the Indians will assail them.
