April 23. – Since writing the
foregoing I have received Commercials of 17th and 18th containing
the doings of Buckland and the Seventy-second. They did well. It is absurd to
find fault with men for breaking away under such circumstances. The guilty
officers ought to be punished — probably Grant or Prentiss, or both. — H.
