He is just as
charming a gentleman as I thought he would be I refer to the captain, of
course. Last night I saw him gazing at Bet's hair in the most admiring manner.
It is magnificent. I should be awfully vain of it, were it mine—but she is not.
Bet is as level-headed as a girl can be, and as sweet and modest as a violet.
