Major Thomas J. Jackson to Mary Anna Morrison Jackson, April 24, 1861

FAIR GROUNDS, 24th.

I am unable to give you the information I would like respecting things here. The State troops are constantly arriving. The Fair grounds are to be made the place for a school of practice. William1 passed through to-day on his way home, and looks very well. He says there is great uneasiness at Washington. His resignation was accepted, although they desired him to remain. Major-General Lee is commander-in-chief of all the land and naval forces in the State.
