The Green Bay (Wisconsin) Advocate gives the following
instance of the industry and skill of a Belgian woman:
As a specimen of Western enterprise, we will state that
several days ago we bought of a Belgian woman four thousand good shingles,
which she informed us she had split and shaved and packed all herself, and had
yoked up her two cows and brought them to marked, a distance of fourteen
miles. One of the cows gave milk, which,
with bread served her as food on the trip, which occupied two days.
