A fierce tornado passed through the Southern portion of our
State on the 15th inst., doing considerable damage to property, and severely
injuring some persons, though no lives were lost. Its effects were visible so far as we have
learned, in Ringgold and [Mahaska] counties.
It seems to have taken a northeasterly course and descended to the earth
in the counties above mentioned.
Indianapolis, in the last named county, suffered considerably, a number
of buildings being destroyed, including the village church.
