E. P. Christy, for many years the head of a negro minstrel
troupe in New York, and a man of considerable wealth, attempted to commit
suicide in that city, on the 9th inst., by jumping from the second story window
of his residence. He has suffered from
depression of spirits, induced by the belief that the rebels were coming to New
York, and that his property would be worthless.
He was badly hurt but still survives.
