The gunboat Jacob Bell, lying at the navy yard, which was
discovered on fire at an early hour this morning, but the flames were soon
suppressed. She was loaded with
stores. Some of the box shells were
considerably charred, hence the vessel barely escaped being blown up. The origin of the fire was not known.
