Tuesday Morning, July
9.
Dear Mother, —
I suppose you will be glad to hear that we came out of the furnace like gold.
Everything has gone well. I feel better than before starting, and the regiment,
as soon as it got on board ship, found itself cool and well. We are off this
afternoon. Good by. God bless you.
