Oh! this heart-crushing suspense! No news from the scene of
battle, except the report that Major Ross is among the killed. Thursday, the
day of the battle at Buffalo Gap, cannonading was distinctly heard here; our
servants noticed it and spoke of it during the day. Today, they insist that
they heard it distinctly again. Oh! my husband! Could I but know he was safe! I
wonder at myself that I do not loose my senses. My God! help me to stay my
heart on thee!
