September 26.
Cold weather seems to have set in upon us. I hope our Rebel
brothers the other side of the Potomac are suffering the same cold nights that
we have. Such weather will do more to drive them from Manassas than much
artillery.
There is a lull now. O for a tempest! I am glad Howard seems
likely to accomplish his best object. Had he not better use a day in a visit to
me on his way West?
