t seems to me that in these circumstances Brown must go no
further, and so I write him. I never was convinced of the wisdom of his scheme.
But as things now stand, it seems to me it would be madness to attempt to
execute it. Colonel Forbes would make such an attempt a certain and most
disastrous failure. I write Brown this evening.
