It is with sorrow we announce the death of Dr. Amos Witter, formerly a citizen of this county and now surgeon of the Seventh Iowa Regiment. We learn from the Tipton Advertiser that he died on the 12th inst., at his home in Mt. Vernon, Linn county, whither he had returned, broken down in constitution from the severity of his labors with the wounded of his regiment after the battle of Belmont. The Doctor was an excellent citizen, and represented both this and Linn county in the legislature.
