Special Order from Gen. Curtis

Gen. Curtis has issued the following special order, dated:


HEADQUARTERS, ARMY OF THE SOUTH-WEST,
March 26th, 1862.

Charley Morton, Hamilton Kannada and Alexander Lewis, colored men, formerly slaves employed in the rebel service, and taken as contraband of war, are hereby confiscated, and not being needed in the public service, are permitted to pass the pickets of this command northward without hindrance, and are forever emancipated from the service of masters who allowed them to aid in the efforts to break up the Government and laws of our country.
