Our Answer

A little while after the fall of Fort Sumter the overjoyed chief of the bogus Southern Confederacy got up the following very courteous, witty and gentlemanly dispatch, for the special benefit of the President of the United States:

“With mortar and cannon, paixhan and petard.
We tender Old Abe our Beau-regard”

Now, since that noble old Roman Andrew H. Foote, has followed so closely after the rear guard of the Confederates, and pursued their panic stricken columns even as far up as Florence Ala., we think his would-be Excellency, Mr. Davis, might be answered as follows:

With Rebels all routed, and flying in fear
We tender Jeff. Davis our Foote in his rear.

Frankfort Ky., Commonwealth.
