A letter received from the relatives of Mr. William Guthrie, who bravely perished at Ft. Donelson, thus expresses the feelings of his friends relative to the honorable burial of Mr. Guthrie by the citizens of our county:
“We send our thanks to the committee who brought William’s remains to the city, and had then buried in a Christian-like manner. Too much praise cannot be given to the citizens whose benevolence prompted them to such acts of kindness to one who was a stranger, away from friends and home. A city made of such people cannot help but prosper.”
