4th Ohio Independent Battery Light Artillery.

Organized at Cincinnati, Ohio, and mustered in August 17, 1861. Moved to St. Louis, Mo., August 21, 1861, thence to Jefferson City and to Sedalia, Mo., September 30. Attached to Army of the West and Dept. of Missouri to February, 1862. 1st Division Army of Southwest Missouri to May, 1862. Artillery, 3rd Division, Army of Southwest Missouri to July, 1862. District of Eastern Arkansas, Dept. of Missouri, to November, 1862. 2nd Brigade, 11th Division, Right Wing 13th Army Corps, Dept. of the Tennessee, to December, 1862. 2nd Brigade, 4th Division, Sherman's Yazoo Expedition, to January, 1863. Artillery, 1st Division, 15th Army Corps, Army of the Tennessee, August, 1864.

SERVICE. – Fremont's Campaign against Springfield, Mo., October 13-27. Duty at Springfield till November 8. Moved to Rolla, Mo., November 8, and duty there till February, 1862. Curtis' advance on Springfield, Mo., February 2-13. Campaign against Price in Missouri and Arkansas February and March. Battles of Pea Ridge March 6-8. March to Batesville, Ark., April 5-May 8, and to Helena, Ark., May 25-July 14. Duty there till October. Expedition up Yazoo August 16-27. Capture of Steamer "Fair Play" August 17. Battery lost during service 1 Officer and 5 Enlisted men killed and mortally wounded and 1 Officer and 27 Enlisted men by disease. Total 34.
