While waiting for orders, I went down to a daguerreotype
gallery1 and had my likeness taken. The water is still rising and
the report in camp is that our division is to proceed up the river to Lake
Providence, Louisiana, and cut the levee to let the water of the Mississippi
through to the lake from which it would be carried into the Red river.
