Hurrah! Hurrah! Hurrah! The Tribune says today that Fremont
has declared Missouri to be under martial law and granted freedom to all the
slaves. I rather think Mother feels well tonight; I only trust that it's
true. Uncle William went on tonight, so Nell and I wait until Tuesday to go
with the Wards. This afternoon we went on board the Constitution to a
hop and danced with the “middies,” Oh! if Fremont only has freed the slaves,
what a step it will be. Joy! Joy! Joy! Hurrah! Hurrah! Hurrah!
