Diary of Lieutenant-Colonel Rutherford B. Hayes: Monday, November 11, 1861

Camp Ewing. — Today private Roach, Company I, was killed by a pistol shot accidentally discharged by a comrade. Rode down to reconnoitre enemy's position up the river. Saw Captain Mack fire at them with Parrott six-pound guns.
