Diary of Brigadier-General William F. Bartlett: Friday, August 12, 1864

No better, no sleep after 12. Some milk porridge this morning. My tongue is fearfully coated, brown. Dr. Hunter just glanced at it and says, “Oh, yes, your tongue looks better.” I said I did not agree with him.
