Crossed Red river on the dam. Four gun boats below the dam,
and two turreted monitors below the upper falls. Two of the coal barges filled
with brick and sunk in the channel had broke away and swung around alongside of
the passage and these four boats being below the upper falls had run through
the dam to safety.
