We were under arms at 3 o'clock a. m., but no signs of an
enemy. It's a beautiful cool morning. Some think Early has gone to reinforce
Lee; guess not; at any rate, an enemy is in front. The Third Division hasn't
moved back to its original position as anticipated last night. Time hangs
heavily and were it not for the bands I should be almost homesick; got a mail
but no news from home.
