Diary of Lieutenant-Colonel Rutherford B. Hayes: Wednesday, November 27, 1861

Fayetteville (Camp Union), Virginia. — We left all baggage on the morning of the 13th early, except what the men could carry, and started down to Gauley to pursue Floyd or rather to attack him. My memo[randa] are as follows: —
