Diary of Edward Bates, June 16, 1859

Wrote a long letter to S. Colfax⁹² of Inda. shewing plainly my views of the slavery question and the Dred Scott decision— Sent him also copious extracts of my letter to Gov Means⁹³ (of 1854) and a copy of my letter to Mr. Kennett,⁹⁴ of 1856. These are not for the press, but are not secret and may be shewn to his friends, at his discretion.
