We, in common with every one who has a warm spot in his heart from the brave defenders of our national flag, would be glad to see the heroic Col. Sweeney promoted to Brigadier General. He left an arm on the plains of Mexico, while fighting for his country, but still, dismembered as he was, his service was accepted in this war. At the battle of Pittsburg, with an empty sleeve hanging from his right shoulder, his left and only remaining arm shattered by two bullets, and a bullet wound through his leg, the gallant officer kept his horse, exposing his person and cheering his men through the whole of the terrible combat. Such disinterested heroism should be appropriately acknowledged.
