How Did He Escape?

It seems to be a fact that the rebel General Bushrod Johnson, managed to escape, together with several members of his staff, on the Monday morning after the memorable Sunday of the surrender.  They contrived to ride through the federal lines it is said, and made off for Nashville, it is very remarkable and very strange that a prisoner of the rank of Brigadier General should have been allowed an opportunity to escape.  There is a mystery about this matter that needs to be cleared up.  Somebody is to blame for the carelessness by which this precious bird was enabled to fly away.  Who can throw light upon the subject? – Chicago Jour.
